Session on the development of Almaty city under the chairmanship of the President

During the session, results of the city’s socio-economic development in 2013 and plans for the upcoming period were discussed.

In his speech, Nursultan Nazarbayev emphasised that the issues of the city’s development would always be the priority for the state.

The President of Kazakhstan paid attention to the need of using the best world experience in the traffic stream management and compliance with architectural requirements. In particularly, given the city’s seismic feature, an emphasis was laid on preservation of the city’s aesthetic attractiveness and performance of architectural calculations.

Concerning the city’s crime rate, the President noted that 53, 000 crimes have been registered in the city and 80 percent of which have not been solved, although the rate of juvenile crime is growing. In this regard, at the request of the mayor’s office, the staff of the Department of Internal Affairs has been considerably increased, although 500 positions remain vacant. The President instructed to provide a safe environment for the city’s residents and guests. The emphasis was laid on the road traffic accidents, the number of which grew threefold and reached 7000 cases.

Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that Almaty should make a substantial contribution into the implementation of the “Kazakhstan-2050” Strategy, which the whole country was working on.

Given the multinationality of the city, the President emphasised the importance of the activity of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.

In his speech, Akhmetzhan Yessimov pointed out that the growth is being observed in the spheres of industry, transport, trade, and in the services sector.

Akhmetzhan Yessimov informed that three prospective spheres of the city development were defined, which include a free economic zone in the Park of Innovative Technologies, an industrial zone in the Alatau district, and the development of tourism.

The Mayor of the city stressed that the instruction to improve city’s ecology and decrease city’s atmosphere pollution is under special control.

In conclusion of the meeting, the Mayor of Almaty noted that thanks to the President’s support, almost all sectors of the city’s economy and social sphere were developing rapidly. He also stressed that a lot of efforts would be made in order to maintain this dynamics.
