The sides discussed issues related to the current activity and monetary policy of the National Bank, as well as ways to ensure financial stability in the country and bank lending in the real economy.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that the National Bank should take measures to return people's confidence in the Kazakh tenge, as well as to continue work on de-dollarization of the country’s economy.
In a floating exchange rate regime, people should be made aware that the tenge is not undergoing something extraordinary. Tenge is influenced by the decline in energy prices, which is natural. At the same time, it is necessary to monitor the level of inflation, providing socially important goods and assistance to vulnerable groups of the population. Regional akims should closely supervise all these issues,” he said.
Chairman of the National Bank, on his part, said that Kazakhstan has to take into account current events in global financial and commodity markets.
In the current circumstances, it is important to carry out an adequate monetary policy, and adhere to a flexible exchange rate regime. Most importantly – we should explain the general public what is happening at the moment,” he said.
Following the meeting the President charged Daniyar Akishev with a number of specific tasks.
