During the meeting the Head of State congratulated the IAEA Director General on the signing of the agreement on the establishment of Low Enriched Uranium Bank in Kazakhstan. Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that this event was the result of fruitful cooperation.
- Kazakhstan closed Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, we have also abandoned the largest nuclear arsenal. Our country has consistently pursued a policy of nuclear non-proliferation. I think our views in this regard are similar, - said the President of Kazakhstan.
In turn, Yukiya Amano stressed that the signing of the agreement was a historic event.
IAEA Director General added that Kazakhstan is the most worthy candidate for the placement of such bank due to the rich history of strengthening the regime of nuclear non-proliferation, as well as having all necessary infrastructure.
