The meeting participants discussed the pace of implementation of the National Security Strategy in 2014 along with issues related to strengthening of the country’s Armed Forces and set goals for the current year.
Aide to the President-Secretary of the Security Council Nurlan Yermekbayev informed the participants of the current state of national security and state authorities’ activity in the related sphere.
In his speech, the Head of State stressed that due to the efforts taken by the government the national interests are respected at the proper level. At the same time, there remain risks of religious, extremist, terrorist and economic character caused by global and regional processes.
The President noted that the existing anti-terrorist infrastructure should be further improved.
In particular, the state will continue to develop legal and institutional mechanisms to combat terrorism and extremism, take measures to improve the equipment of special forces and their readiness to counter-terrorism operations. Explanatory work in the country will be focused at the formation of citizens’ immunity to extremist ideology, while legal and preventive measures will reduce the number of adherents of radical ideas.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that the Government and local executive bodies must constantly analyze the economic situation in the country and the markets of Kazakhstan’s major trading partners and, if necessary, take appropriate measures.
In the current circumstances, it is necessary to pay special attention to maintaining political stability and elimination of prerequisites for social and labour conflicts. It is important to ensure the rule of law on the part of all parties of labour and economic disputes
The President stressed that Kazakhstan will continue to make every effort to facilitate the settlement of conflict in Ukraine, using all its diplomatic resources.
The meeting participants also discussed issues related to the provision of military, social, environmental and information security.
Following the discussion, the President gave a number of specific instructions to the Government.
