The round table devoted to the 25th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence and the International Human Rights Day has been attended by Chairman of the Commission on Human Rights K. Sultanov, the Attorney General Zh.Asanov, the Permanent Representative of the UN Development Program in Kazakhstan N.Shimomura, Head of the EU Delegation in Kazakhstan T.Hristea, Central Asia Coordinator, Head of the OSCE Office in Astana Program D.Sabo etc..
In her welcome speech, the Secretary of State underscored that the President of Kazakhstan attaches great importance to the development of constructive and partnership with all the institutions of civil society in the field of human rights, pointing out that the progress of democratic institutions, the media, the rights and freedoms of our citizens are the most important conditions for the independent Kazakhstan’s development.
G.Abdykalikova noted particularly relevant discussions in the field of human rights on the eve of Kazakhstan's participation in the UN Security Council in 2017-2018 as a non-permanent member.
The reports and presentations of the round table participants discussed issues of realization of the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and Kazakhstan’s current legislation, improvement of national human rights protection mechanisms in accordance with international standards.
Roundtable participants pointed out the importance of the President’s five institutional reforms, as well as international human rights treaties ratified by Kazakhstan, with the aim to improve human rights mechanisms and strengthening national human rights protection system. International and national experts as speakers in the discussion have given a positive assessment of the human rights mechanisms in Kazakhstan.
In conclusion, the Secretary of State expressed gratitude to the international institutions: the UN Development Programme in Kazakhstan, the International Organization for Migration, the EU Delegation and the OSCE Office of the Program in Astana, as well as human rights NGOs for the constructive cooperation in the sphere of human rights protection.
