During the meeting, held in Almaty presidential residence, Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that today Almaty plays a crucial role in the development of the country as an economic, financial, cultural and educational center. He also stressed the importance of the implementation of government programs in the city.
“Almaty is a very large city, the management of which is challenging and requires a thorough analysis of the processes occurring here. The city has a large number of complicated problems. Today a major work focus should be on attracting investment and development of public-private partnership,” he said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev also instructed Bauyrzhan Baibek to pay special attention to ensuring law and order in the city given the current growth of migrants.
“The city has become home to about 500,000 migrants from other regions, which are not properly registered. We need to get to the bottom of this problem, because tomorrow it may affect the entire city. Therefore the local executive bodies together with national and regional authorities need to address these issues and to be in constant contact with each other,” he stressed.
Bauyrzhan Baibek informed the President on major socio-economic achievements of the city, as well as various investment and infrastructure projects.
“Next year we are planning to restructure the city’s economy by reducing public investment down to 70 billion tenge. The private sector will on the contrary allocate up to 75 billion tenge. We have already signed a number of memoranda for the construction of 14 kindergartens, 3 schools, and a clinic,” he noted.
He also touched upon the development of industrial sector and the city’s preparation for the upcoming 2017 Winter Universiade.
“39 projects have been implemented in line with the industrialization programme. We have approved 41 projects worth 320 billion tenge, which are to be created in the industrial park in Alatau district, 60 billion tenge of investment will be attracted next year. In order to engage Kazakhstani companies in the organization of EXPO-2017, we have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the participation of Almaty companies in exposition for the total amount of 10 billion tenge. As for the facilities of the 2017 Winter Universiade the amount of local companies engaged in the preparation process has reached 57 per cent. An operating budget worth 17 billion tenge has been approved recently,” he added.
At the end of the meeting Nursultan Nazarbayev once again drew the attention of Bauyrzhan Baibek to the fact that management of the country’s largest city imposes great responsibility.
“Given the size of the city, the government should support local authorities. A lot should be done in the law enforcement field. It is especially important to ensure concerted activities of law enforcement agencies, especially against the background of the nowadays events and the growing terrorist threat,” he stressed.
Following the meeting the President charged Bauyrzhan Baibek with a number of specific tasks.
