During the meeting the sides discussed issues of mutual cooperation between Kazakhstan and UNESCO in the preservation of cultural and historical heritage, as well as the expansion of international relations in the sphere of education and science.
The President noted that our country actively cooperates and supports UNESCO. Nursultan Nazarbayev also stressed the importance of the participation of Irina Bokova in the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions within the framework of her visit to Astana in 2012.
“We have good relations with UNESCO. This organization, which is called the “conscience of humanity”, protects the traditions and cultural values of people. Many significant dates of Kazakh culture were marked by UNESCO,” he said.
Irina Bokova, in turn, noted that Kazakhstan is an active partner of UNESCO therefore it was hard to imagine that the Organization’s General anniversary Conference was held without the participation of President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
In addition, UNESCO Director General noted the initiatives and projects put forward by Kazakhstan which are aimed at the rapprochement of cultures play an important role in strengthening the harmony in the world.
