Speaking at the Summit’s plenary session, the Head of State stressed that international politics reached a peak of tension under conditions of heightened conflict and growth of sanctions and trade wars.
- We need to use the current Asia-Europe Meeting in response to these problems. I regret to say, in the modern period in the world there is a lack of efficient dialogue and common ground. We all stand witness to the current economic and political confrontation, similar in size to the Caribbean crisis of the 60s of the previous century, the President of Kazakhstan said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the Summit should call on the United States, Russia, China, as well as the European Union to search for solutions to existing disagreements in the world.
- The matters will only worsen unless we deal with settling problems in Syria, Ukraine and other countries. Transnational terrorism will remain the key issue as long as there is threat of ballistic missile proliferation, the Head of State said.
In the context of economic decline in the world, the President of Kazakhstan pointed out that in some poor countries the situation is even more aggravated, and this represents a serious challenge for all of humanity.
- The leaders of the countries came together after the World War II; they have worked closely together in the fight against terrorism. I urge the leaders of the United States, Russia, China, and the European Union to dialogue, and I suggest using the Astana negotiating platform to discuss topical issues. These issues may also be considered at the special session of the UN General Assembly, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
In conclusion, the Head of State reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to take an active part in the partnership aimed at countering the global challenges of Asia and Europe.
