Meeting with members of the Kazakhstan-Japan Friendship Parliamentary League headed by Chairman Takeo Kawamura

November 7, 2016

In the course of the talks the Head of State noted that the Kazakhstan-Japan Friendship Parliamentary League is making indispensable contribution to the strengthening of the strategic partnership between the two nations.

The President of Kazakhstan expressed gratitude for the support given to our country, and the efforts exerted for enhancing cooperation.

- You have supported our bid to host EXPO-2017 and our concerted efforts to nuclear disarmament, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

The Head of State drew attention to making the Kazakh-Japanese cooperation more active in all areas.

- We celebrate the 25th anniversary of Independence; it is a very short period of time. During that period, I believe, we have achieved considerable success. Further development of relations with Japan is essential for us. We are the Asian countries, we have a common destiny, the President of Kazakhstan said.

Takeo Kawamura, in turn, thanked Nursultan Nazarbayev for the allotted time for the meeting.

- It is 25 years next year since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Kazakhstan and the EXPO will take place as well. We would like to use these events to strengthen inter-parliamentary exchanges, Chairman of the Kazakhstan-Japan Friendship Parliamentary League said.

Takeo Kawamura also congratulated our country with the election as the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018, noting that Kazakhstan in that position will succeed in making even greater contribution to the cause of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

In that context the Head of State stressed that he had previously submitted a manifesto "World. XXI Century", and appealed for achieving the goal of building a world free of nuclear weapons by 2045 at the UN General Assembly and expressed hope for assistance from Japan to these initiatives.
