The parties discussed the issues of strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, including the progress of the initiatives voiced by our country in the framework of the OIC. The two sides also exchanged views on key priority areas of the forthcoming Summit.
Moreover, Nursultan Nazarbayev and Iyad Ameen Madani touched upon the main issues of the international agenda, reviewed the possibility of participation of the OIC member states in eradicating Islamophobia and opposition to manifestations of terrorism around the world.
The President of Kazakhstan underscored the importance and timeliness of inviting the OIC member states participating in the Summit for preserving the unity among the Muslim states, and searching for responses to current global challenges.
“Kazakhstan joins all the decisions which are to be adopted in the framework of the summit. Together with the President of Turkey we have made a special appeal urging the Islamic world to unite. I express my appreciation for the inclusion of its provisions in the outcome documents of the Summit,” Kazakhstan’s President said.
Furthermore, Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed the need for a new stage of the Organization development, the need to move from simply discussing problems to making real decisions.
The head of state also stated that in the course of his recent visit to Iran he called for better relations between Iran and the Saudi Arabia.
“Such division has a negative effect on our society. Islam and progress always go side by side, so we need to work together to develop science and technology in the Muslim states. Yet another problem: the identification of terrorism with Islam. We should eradicate such a perception and issue an 'Islam Against Terrorism' appeal, thereby raising the level of Ummah. Your contribution in this respect is significant,” the President of Kazakhstan said.
In turn, Iyad bin Amin Madani emphasized that Nursultan Nazarbayev's participation in the Summit makes it more significant.
“Your initiatives are very important for closer ties in the Islamic world. They create opportunities for further progress. We need to work on their subsequent implementation,” the OIC Secretary General said.
