The President of Kazakhstan and the President of the EBRD discussed main mechanisms of the Bank’s support for domestic and foreign investments during the meeting within the framework of the World Economic Forum.
The sides reviewed a number of prospective projects aimed at development of infrastructure, in particular the Bank’s support for financing of Almaty’s urban transport programme.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed the high level of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EBRD, as well as the Bank’s significant contribution to the development of the country’s economy by financing projects in various sectors. The President called on to continue support for development of SME sector.
In turn, Suma Chakrabarti also emphasized the successful cooperation, having noted that the projects package on Kazakhstan amounted to US$ 450-500 million over the last year.
According to the President of the EBRD, the Bank is interested in increase its investment operations in Kazakhstan. Moreover, Suma Chakrabarti laid an emphasis on the Bank’s active participation in implementing the key aspects of the Green Economy Strategy through more than 50 percent of all projects.
