At the end of the talks in narrow and extended formats, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held a briefing for representatives of the media.
The President of Kazakhstan said that there was a thorough and very substantive exchange of views during the talks.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev underlined that over the 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Qatar, cooperation has expanded, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian relations are steadily developing, and cooperation within the framework of global and regional structures is established.
- Qatar is a very important partner for us in the Middle East. Doha was one of the first to support our socio-economic and political reforms. I mentioned this to Sheikh Tamim today. We highly appreciate his personal contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation. I expressed gratitude to him on behalf of our people," the Head of State noted.
The President said that important issues were discussed during the talks and several agreements were reached.
- Kazakh-Qatari bilateral relations are focused on trade, economic and investment cooperation. However, the coronavirus pandemic and the geopolitical situation have not allowed us to fully utilize the existing potential. As a result, our trade turnover has slowed down in recent years. Therefore, we have set the goal of revitalizing trade between the two countries. All conditions are being created for this," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
Currently, several companies from Qatar are successfully operating in the agricultural industry of Kazakhstan. Their products are exported to several countries. In addition, the parties agreed to develop contacts in the exploration, mining, transport and logistics, financial and banking sectors. Relevant agreements were signed during the visit.
President Tokayev expressed confidence that the reached agreements will bring the Kazakh-Qatari relations to a new level.
