The Head of State thanked Giorgia Meloni for the warm welcome he had received on Italian soil.
As Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted, Kazakhstan and Italy enjoy close political dialogue, robust economic partnership and fruitful cultural and humanitarian ties.
– We are proud to be Italy's main partner in Central Asia. Our economic cooperation is developing very dynamically and has great potential for further growth, – he said.
According to the President, Italy is a leading trading partner in Europe and is among the largest investors in Kazakhstan's economy. Trade turnover between the countries totalled about $15 billion in 2022. Foreign direct investment from Italy to Kazakhstan reached $7.3 billion. Today, more than 300 Italian companies are successfully operating in the country, including such major investors as ENI, SDF Group, PetroValves, Maire Tecnimont, IVECO, Tenaris and others.
The Head of State noted the successful cooperation of the two countries in achieving common goals in the global arena within the UN, the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the OECD. He expressed Kazakhstan's readiness to further strengthen cooperation in the areas of global security, regional stability, counter-terrorism and climate change.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed the opening of the Italian Cultural Institute in Almaty. According to him, cultural diplomacy, educational partnership and tourism play an important role in deepening contacts between peoples and countries.
The President of the Council of Ministers of Italy Giorgia Meloni noted the high level of Kazakh-Italian relations and reaffirmed Italy's commitment to developing contacts with our country.
– We consider your visit as a great opportunity to further strengthen Kazakh-Italian relations, – Prime Minister said.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to deepening cooperation in trade and economic, investment, energy, transport and logistics, agrarian, cultural and humanitarian, educational spheres, as well as green energy issues and development of air communication between the capitals of the states.
They also exchanged views on regional and international issues.
– I believe that today's talks will mark a new stage in our bilateral relations and will open a good opportunity to find promising areas of cooperation, – the President concluded.
Following the meeting, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the Prime Minister of Italy adopted a Joint Statement.
The following documents were also signed:
- Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Italian Republic regarding the status of burial sites of military personnel who died during the World War II;
- Memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Justice of the Italian Republic on cooperation in the legal field;
- Memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Culture of the Italian Republic on cooperation in the field of art and culture;
- Memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of University and Research of the Italian Republic on the cooperation in the field of higher education, research and innovation;
- Memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Academy of Public Administration under President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National School of Administration of the Italian Republic;
- Cooperation Agreement between the Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund “Samruk Kazyna” and the Italian National Promotional Institution “Cassa Depositi e Prestiti” to strengthen and broaden the cooperation in areas of manufacturing, energy transition, logistics and other areas.
- Joint final investment decision between the Kazakh National Company KazMunayGas and the Italian company Eni on the implementation of a joint project for the construction of a hybrid power plant.
