On the margins of the Boao Forum Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Ban Ki-moon, Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, and President of the Assembly of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
Expressing gratitude to Ban Ki-moon for the invitation to take part in the BFA, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted his significant services to the world community as UN Secretary-General.
– From my perspective, you were one of the best Secretary-General in the history of the United Nations. It was my pleasure and honor to serve for the UN under your leadership for two and a half years in general, – the Kazakh leader said.
In turn, Ban Ki-moon emphasized the substantial contribution of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the development of international cooperation.
– As a leader of Kazakhstan you have been actively working to ensure regional peace and cooperation, empowering people and United Nations. Kazakhstan has been serving as a vital bridge between East and West. So you have such an abundant experience knowing how East and West work, – Ban Ki-moon noted.
The parties discussed the international agenda, including the role of the UN in effectively overcoming global challenges.
The President informed about the country`s international initiatives. Kazakhstan in cooperation with France plans co-chair One Water Summit on the sidelines of the 79th UNGA. Moreover, a Regional Climate Summit will be held in Astana in 2026.
In conclusion, President Tokayev invited Ban Ki-moon to take part in the upcoming Astana International Forum as one of the keynote speakers.
