During the meeting, the Head of State has heard about the results of the activities of the Supreme Judicial Council for 2017 and the execution of instructions given at the VII Congress of Judges of Kazakhstan.
Nursultan Nazarbayev noted the work carried out by the Supreme Judicial Council on the selection of personnel with the view to improving the quality of exercising justice by the courts.
- We are implementing reforms in the judicial system to ensure the rule of law. For an objective selection of the judicial cadres, we have created the autonomous Supreme Judicial Council, which is independent and does not subordinate to anyone, the President of Kazakhstan said.
In the context of practical implementation of the 17th step of the Nation’s Plan, the Head of State has drawn particular attention to the need to guide the principle of meritocracy when selecting candidates for the position of judges.
-This should lead to a qualitative selection of personnel. It is necessary to appoint only the best who make fair decisions, only then people will go to court for protection of their rights, the President of Kazakhstan said.
In addition, Anatoly Smolin reported to the Head of State on promising directions of the ongoing activities, including those as part of the President's Address to Kazakhstan’s Nation "New Opportunities for Development in the Context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution", as well as on the formation of investigative courts established in the framework of law enforcement reform.
Following the meeting, Nursultan Nazarbayev has given a number of specific instructions.
