In the course of the meeting, the parties gave consideration to the present state and the roadmap of relations between the two countries in the commercial, economic and investment spheres.
The Kazakh leader noted that the visit of the Secretary of Commerce is an important evidence of the US interest in developing cooperation with the Central Asian region, which will help strengthen mutual economic ties.
The President of Kazakhstan emphasized the results of the Summit talks held during his official visit to the United States this January.
- During our meeting we have gained understanding with President Donald Trump. Kazakhstan-US relations have come to the level of expanded partnership and agreed the statements to that effect. As part of my official visit, I met with the senior figures of the US business world. As the result of the joint business forum, we agreed 27 different commercial documents for the amount of 7 billion US dollars. To date, the volume of trade between our countries is about 2 billion US dollars. This year this figure has grown by 30 percent, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
In addition, the Head of State dwelled on the history of cooperation development between the two countries and spoke about the agreements concluded in the early years of Kazakhstan’s independence.
- When Kazakhstan gave up on the nuclear weapons and closed the world's largest nuclear test site, we signed the first cooperation agreement with President George Bush Senior. At the same time, Chevron expressed its intention to work in our country. This company’s history clearly shows how you can successfully run business in Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
The Head of State has said that today Kazakhstan is bringing into action a multi-faceted policy and maintaining good relations with all partner countries.
In turn, Wilbur Ross thanked the President of Kazakhstan for the meeting and spoke about his impressions of visiting Astana.
- This is my first time in Kazakhstan. I am impressed with the capital’s architecture, which I saw on the way from the airport. You are actively developing construction, and, indeed, the economy is growing dynamically, the US Commerce Secretary said.
Mr. Ross noted that a delegation from 16 American companies arrived in Astana with the intention of developing trade and economic relations with Kazakhstan.
The US Commerce Secretary conveyed greetings and best wishes to President Nursultan Nazarbayev on behalf of US President Donald Trump, and also expressed interest in further deepening and expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States.
