During the meeting Nursultan Nazarbayev and Ali Akbar Salehi discussed a wide range of issues of cooperation between the two countries.
The President noted the successful development of the bilateral relations between Kazakhstanand Iran at the highest level.
According to Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kazakhstan is ready to expand and strengthen the friendly relations as well as to promote cooperation in trade and economy. To date, the existing volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Iran amounts to about 1 billion US$. But it does not fully reflect the potential and capacities of the two states. Today we are seeing some volatility in the region. The situation in Afghanistan and Syria is becoming more unpredictable. Kazakhstan has consistently and at all levels provided support to Iran, and has always advocated a diplomatic settlement of all international issues in various fields.
The Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized that President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad deeply respects Nursultan Nazarbayev and considers him as a prominent political figure in the international arena. Ali Akbar Salehi also invited the President of Kazakhstan to take part in the Non-alignment Movement Summit.
Kazakhstan and Iran maintain active contacts at all levels. No contradictions exist betweenKazakhstan and Iran in the political sphere. Kazakhstan and Iran are active members in such regional organizations as the CICA, SCO, ECO, as well as in the ad hoc working group on theCaspian Sea. Kazakhstan and Iran also signed more than 60 different bilateral documents, which created a necessary legal framework for the development of comprehensive cooperation.
