Speaking to the media, the President of Kazakhstan noted the meeting’s friendly and constructive nature, and it took place as part of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
- We have considered almost all the issues of interaction between states in the interests of strengthening security. We have had a constructive exchange of views on the main directions of the CSTO development and the current problems of international and regional politics. We have summed up the results of fulfilling the priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the CSTO, the Head of State said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that the CSTO member states highly appreciated Kazakhstan’s activities as a chair of this international institution.
In addition, the President of Kazakhstan spoke about important decisions taken, aimed at further strengthening cooperation within the CSTO and improving mechanisms for ensuring collective security.
- The key political document of the CSTO Summit in Astana is the final Declaration, reflecting the objectives and plans of the Organization for the coming period. We have adopted a Statement On Coordinated Measures Regarding Participants of Armed Conflicts on the Side of International Terrorist Organizations. The work started on legalizing the status of the CSTO partner and the observer at the CSTO, begun by our Belarusian colleagues. And we have inked the required package of papers, the Head of State said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev also said about the approved Action Plan on developing the system to combat illegal migration and the Action Plan on working out a coordinated information policy in favour of the CSTO countries.
In conclusion, the President of Kazakhstan informed the media about handing over the CSTO chairmanship to the Kyrgyz Republic for the next intersessional period. The Kazakh leader expressed confidence that the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic will be held at a high level and will make a significant contribution to the Organization’s further all-round development.
