Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official inauguration ceremony as President of Kazakhstan was held at the Palace of Independence.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has taken the oath in accordance with Article 42 of the Constitution:
- I solemnly swear to faithfully serve the people of Kazakhstan, strictly follow the Constitution and the laws of Kazakhstan, guarantee the rights and freedoms of citizens, and conscientiously fulfill the high duties assigned to me as the President of Kazakhstan!
In honor of the inauguration of the elected President of Kazakhstan, the National Anthem was played, 21 artillery salvoes were produced, and the National Flag of Kazakhstan was raised above korda residence.
Berik Imashev, Chairman of the Central Election Commission, presented Kassym-Jomart Tokayev with a Certificate of the President of Kazakhstan.
In his inaugural speech, the Head of State thanked all citizens of Kazakhstan for their confidence and noted the special role of the First President of Kazakhstan, Leader of Nation Nursultan Nazarbayev, as the founder of modern Kazakh statehood.
- My goal is to ensure the unity of society and protect the rights of every citizen. I will always and everywhere defend the national interests of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
The Head of State outlined ten key areas, the implementation of which should start immediately. These included raising incomes and the population’s well-being, effectively countering corruption, judicial and legal reform, fair social policy, solving the housing problem, developing regions, a balanced and multi-vector foreign policy, as well as supporting the youth.
In conclusion, the President of Kazakhstan, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan, received the report of Defense Minister Nurlan Yermekbayev on the square in front of the Palace of Independence.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the First President of Kazakhstan – Leader of Nation Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Parliament deputies, the Cabinet members, the Supreme Court judges, members of the Constitutional Council, representatives of the Presidential Administration and the Office of the Prime Minister, heads of central government bodies, members of the Central Election Commission, members of Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, representatives of religious denominations, akims of regions, cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty and Shymkent, heads of accredited in Kazakhstan diplomatic missions, presidential candidates, leadership of Nur Otan Party, members of the national and regional public staff, representatives of non-governmental organizations, media, business circles, prominent figures of science, culture and art, leaders of youth organizations. In total, 2500 people have attended the ceremony.
