In his address, the President of Kazakhstan extended gratitude to all ADB member countries for the high degree of trust shown to the country that hosted this annual meeting.
Nursultan Nazarbayev underscored that this year marked the 20th anniversary of establishment of the partnership between Kazakhstan and the ADB.
“Over this time the Bank delivered about US$ 3.5 billion to the country’s economy. Last year Kazakhstan turned into an ADB donor. Our country takes active participation in the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Programme. In this regard, the realization of the important road improvement project of the “Western Europe – Western China” international transport corridor funded by the ADB is underway," the President highlighted.
President Nazarbayev noted that the joint activities of Kazakhstan and the ADB focused on fostering economic growth in Asia as a whole.
The President emphasised that the theme of the 47th annual meeting “The Silk Road: Connecting Asia with the Changing World.” was in keeping with the history of Kazakhstan.
In conclusion, the President expressed confidence that the annual meeting of the Board of Governors would give a new impetus to the development of the global economy in general.
In his speech, ADB President Takehiko Nakao expressed satisfaction with the framework signed with the Government of the Kazakhstan and shared his views on economic outlook for the Asia and Pacific region.
Following the gathering, there has been signed a framework on partnership between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Asian Development Bank to enhance cooperation in order to facilitate a more diversified economy, sustainable development and inclusive growth of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
