Addressing the gathering, President Nursultan Nazarbayev congratulated the people of Kazakhstan on the advent of the spring holiday Nauryz.
“Your region starts celebrating Nauryz nine days before the main holiday date. The tradition to assign a special meaning to each of these days and dedicate them to kind deeds is a good undertaking that makes Nauryz a real holiday of kindness. This is a good example for other regions of the country,” he said.
The President emphasized that the government pays special attention to the issues of education, healthcare and youth policy.
“There are a lot of young people here today. In order to educate our youth we are building new kindergartens, schools and universities. Within the framework of the “Balapan” programme 70% of children are covered by pre-school education in the region. In addition, maternal and infant mortality rate has decreased by 20%. Due to the fact that each region pays great attention to the development of medicine, the average life expectancy of people in Kazakhstan has reached 70 years of age. I suppose it is a great success that indicates the overall level of development of our country,” he said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that despite the crisis in the world Kazakhstan continues to build on progress, which is proved by the high level of socio-economic development of the region.
“Nearly 17% of the total population of Kazakhstan lives in South Kazakhstan. Major railroads run through the territory of the region. The “Western Europe – Western China” international transport corridor has been built recently, the airport is currently being reconstructed. Over these years, the region has turned into a world center of uranium production. Today Kazakhstan ranks first, providing 35 percent of the world's uranium production,” he said.
In conclusion, the Head of State reminded the residents of South Kazakhstan of the new goals and objectives set during the 16th Congress of the Nur Otan party and wished them every success and prosperity.
Chairman of the regional Council of Veterans Zhanisbek Maulenkulov, Member of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan Natalya Shevchenko and Member of Youth Association Zhandos Osserbayev spoke during the event.
The event continued with a theatrical performance and a concert.
