Welcoming Rafael Grossi, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the importance of his visit for further strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the IAEA.
“I strongly believe that your visit is in timely in terms of pushing forward of our mutual relationship. You know that for Kazakhstan, the work of the Agency is extremely important. It makes a priority for us. We highly value, your activities as the head of this important Agency,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
President Tokayev and Director General Grossi discussed a wide range of issues, focusing on strengthening technical cooperation and the construction of nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.
The President emphasised the Agency’s crucial role in promoting peaceful use of nuclear energy, as well as in safeguarding nuclear materials and technologies.
In turn, Rafael Grossi thanked the Head of State for his warm welcome and praised Kazakhstan's role as a leader and responsible member to the nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation process.
“There are so many things we are doing together in different areas. I would be very happy to exchange views with you on those ranging from human healthcare to your future and nuclear power programme,” the IAEA Director General noted.
